Notepad not responding

When I try to save a file in Notepad, it sits on an
hourglass for long and in Task Manager, the Status
says "Not Responding".

Any thoughts and suggestions to fix this problem?

Try a System File Check. Start>Run type: sfc /scannow Have the
WinXP CD in the cdrom drive.
