The Go To option in Notepad is disabled in new install of
Windows XP ... how do you activate/get the function
back ... does not seem to occur to all machines. Same
install, different results in this one area. Thanks!

Turn Word Wrap Off. When Word Wrap on, there is not logical concept of
line numbers to "go to" and so Notepad turns "go to" off.

Note: this has nothing to do with "macros". There is no macro
functionality in XP's Notepad.
