I've found over a hundred notepad files in my WINNT folder with file names
that begin with either 'KB***' or 'Q***' They each hold about 32 KB of mem
each. What are these files and can I get rid of them, at least the old ones
from about 2 years ago?

They are the hotfix/WinUpdate logs.

Do not delete the "C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$" folder. It's integral for when new updates are
applied making sure things are consistent with previously applied updates and patches.

What is a "notepad" file?

Obviously he means txt files. I also imagine he means 32Kb of disk space as
opposed to memory.
They are Windows update log files.

I thought he did but after being misled on countless
occasions by ambiguous posts I have stopped making
assumptions.

Thanks alot. My fault for not being up on my terminology. I appreciate the
patience and understanding. I did get rid of the folders, but now I'm
wondering if I need to do anything about the actual txt files that first
caught my eye.
