notepad.exe is not found

Hi, I am having some problems with the XP Pro. I am trying to open a txt file
but it said notepad is not found. I tried to go to the start>run and typed
notepad and it gave me the same error message. I wonder what's going on with
the notepad.exe file. It seems lost. How do I put it back to the system?
