Notebook Users in a Domain

Hello,

I've got my first notebook computer that is being prepped for dual use
as a workstation in our office domain, and as a portable that may be
used elsewhere to access home networks, etc...

Is there anything I should know upfront before I begin configuring this
system?

I dont want the system to take forever looking for the DC during boot
when the user is remote, but I want to apply all policies / security /
drive mapping / etc when the user is on the office network.

Any suggestions?

Don't give them a local account, have them log into the domain when out of
the office as opposed to logging on locally on the laptop. They will use
cached credentials and logging on to the domain when out of the office will
not take longer.

Look into off line files for users that need to work on their files when out
of the office.

My system policy forces users to change their password every 60 days...
what would happen if this should happen when the user is out of the
office? Would he be able to change the password when prompted and upon
the next reconnect to the domain would the new password update AD?

You should train your users to change their password before leaving the
office. If they are normally gone from the office for 60 days change the
policy to 90 days.

So far I have not had a user prompted to change their password while out of
the office. But then my users are only gone from the office at most about 2
weeks.
