Notebook memory pc100 pc133

I'm thinking about buying notebook memory and it seems like the PC133 memory
is cheaper than the PC100. I read some where that I could probably use the
PC133 instead of the PC100 and I just want to be sure. Also, how important
is that I get CL2 and not CL3?

I have a Sony PCG-FXA36 with 2 128mb PC100 (CL2) SDRAMM SO-DIMM memories.

According to Crucial, PC100 SODIMMs are your only option.

Both Crucial modules are CL2.

I can tell you these speeds used to be backward compatible, but the
last time I had someone go ahead with the PC133 they had a huge
warning on the box that read 'PC133 IS NO LONGER BACKWARD COMPATIBLE
WITH PC100" in huge read letters. So that'dd be my guess is, because
they removed the backward compatibility they can charge more for the
PC100. So yeah, I would have to agree that PC100 is your only option.

It is backwards compatible speed-wise, but the difference is
that the PC133 is higher-density chips, so there are fewer
chips per any sized module... also why it costs less. The
notebook specs should (hopefully) detail what type of memory
it supports, or otherwise the board chipset would need be
determined and it's specs looked up on the 'net.
