Notebook Lan

Hello,
I have recieved a warranty repair aurthorizaton for my notebook. I was
getting media disconnected for the ethernet/lan port. A bunch of tests were
done and drivers changed, but the issue seems a direct hardware failure.

However, I was wondering if anyone has encountered this nuiscance and has
gone inside to find something obviously simplicstic that is interferring with
the lan. It would be helpful to know if this might be a typical problem with
a typical fix and i could save myself a few weeks and some costs with sending
in the notebook.

Could it be dirty contacts or something simplistic? I doubt that it is
dirty contacts since the notebook is well handled and cared for? thanks for
any pointers or tips....

I think I found the workaround. After posting my question I went browsing
online for network cards, just for curiousity and knowing my laptop's card
was not a consumer replacement.

I discovered that there were those laptop adaptors that fit into a slot and
there were some available for ethernet. Then I saw an adaptor that is
usb-to-lan and remembered I had one somewhere.

It seems that this was my solution and I now have Lan capabilities. I don't
know how to measure the speed as it is a usb to lan connection and not
registered as a network card or wireless connection.

But at least the 12 dollar purchase last year saved me the costs of
shipping, packing, travel to the ups store and a few weeks without the
notebook at this time.

Hope this info will be helfpul to others... However I welcome any comments
or tidbits about this issue of low quality builtin notebook network adaptor
