notebook computer and sleep mode

I have a Sony Vaio (FZ150). Notebook Computer screen does not return after
closing lid while in battery mode. I have changed the power-management
settings and do not see a change.

The computer appears to be running, but I can not get the screen to return.
I have to reboot.
