notebook blue screens after sitting idle!

I have xp home using a HP pavilliion notebook. sometimes after it sits idle
for a while it just blue screens. the last time it did it by the time I got
to it to write down what the screen said it had shut it self off.

note: I just had downloaded SP1 and other various updates.

anyone?

Check with HP tech support - from your brief description, it sounds like
your notebook is overheating, but there is really no way to tell from
the little information you posted. The actual error message would have
been helpful.

yes I would have written down but the machine shut itself off. also: my
warranty is used up.

Then perhaps the best thing to do is take it to a place that repairs
laptops. Have them test it for you and then you can decide your best
course of action.
