Not sure if it's a virus?

Hope someone out there can help. I think i have a virus,
but Nortan cant find it so may just be a glitch in
windows. When i open the start menue & click on my
computer, or my pics, or anything on start menu icons &
tool bar dissapear for a few seconds then come back with
an "error code 1400 invalid handle" message. Still cant
find what code 1400 is or why this is happening or how to
fix it???
