Not showing devices in device manager!

Hi,
I'm receiving errors and the computer is automatically restarting. See:
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 321637 it is the same except the
signature information is different (Mine shows: Bccode: 1000008E BCP1:
C0000005 BCP2: 805C48BF BCP3: F8654314 BCP4: 00000000 OSVER:
5_1_2600 SP: 1_0 PRODUCT: 768_1). The workaround says to go to device
manager and check for diver file corruption, when I do no devices appear!
It's my mothers computer so I don't know what she's done, I do know that no
new hardware has been installed and the computer does not have a Creative
Labs SoundBlaster 16 Joystick with a game port.

This is almost certainly a hardware or driver problem. What Device
manager says is based on a very limited check. But you have *something*
that is crashing - and the system's 'automatically restart' is cutting
in. Turn this off: in Control Panel - System - Advanced, click Settings
in the Startup and Recovery section. There uncheck 'automatically
restart'.

You will now get a Blue screen failure instead, but at least will get
some guidance as to what is happening. For driver trouble, look in the
bottom line for reference to something.sys - then look for that file in
windows\system32\drivers
R-click it, Properties, and the Version page should indicate what it is
for. Then go to the relevant maker's site and look for updated drivers
