Not saving/uploading border correctly

G

Guest

When I load my live site into FP it is displaying my shared borders
correctly. Once I save it and publish it back to My Documents/My Webs it
isn't showing up correctly. How can I get this corrected? Usually once
something is saved it is displayed correctly on my live site, but this time
it is not.

Thank you,
Jen

Explain "Once I save it" and "isn't showing up correctly"
- save the shared border page?
- what is not showing

Post a URL for the online site

OK:

I view my live site and the borders are wrong.
I "edit with fp" and once my site is in fp the borders are correct.
I publish back to my documents/my webs and the borders are displaying wrong.

Try opening the web and not using Edit With FP.

Shared borders and Include Pages are design time tools w/ the content (inside the <BODY> tags) of the Shared Border or Include page
"embedded" or included as html in your pages when you save any of the file(s) using them (or save the borders / include pages
themselves)

FP converts your page(s) to a series of tables to include the Shared borders, (which are really just a special case of Include
pages)
But FP can not build those tables if either your shared border page content or main page content has illegal html or broken tag
pairs
- usually due to missing </body></html> tags, or unmatched table / cell tags (unclosed table / cell tags), or some other unclosed
html block element

If you can see them using File Preview in Browser they will publish in as part of your pages

If you can't see them using File Preview in Browser, it's because FP can not build the included content tables, so you need to
validate and correct your broken html

I previewed in the browser and it is displaying incorrectly. The url to one
of the pages is http://www.momonabudget.com
It is not supposed to be displaying 2 google ads, only 1 should be there and
more text links should be listed instead.

Thanks,
Jen

Badly malformed html with multiple unclosed tags (missing
- so you shared borders will not work until you fix your main page
Open it in Code View and try right clicking to Reformat html
(so it adds the closing </body> and </.html> tags)

PS
you have a Google ad in the main page (under Fire your boss) and in the right shared border page too

How do I get into Code View to reformat the html? I can't find a way to give
me the reformat option.

Down at the bottom of FP you'll see a tab CODE click on it (thats for
FP2003. In 2002 its labled HTML)

Then place your cursor anywhere in the Code and Right Click select Reformat
HTML from the list.

I'm using FP 2000 and I do not have that option. I clicked on the HTML tab
on the bottom, but once I right click I don't get a reformat option. I get
"select all, Find, Replace, Go To, and Show color coding.

Ok, I checked out that page and it didn't help me too much. Maybe because I
didn't understand how to read it and how it showed me to fix my html.

Chris Leeds, MVP-FrontPage

you wouldn't happen to have the publishing properties set to "optimize" the
code on publish would you?

I had a client going nuts because he'd publish his included page (both
shared borders and FrontPage includes) and the changes wouldn't permeate
into the site as they should've. the culprit was the optimize on publish.
FrontPage couldn't know which pages were based on shared borders or
includes.

Just paste your site URL (for say your home page) in the box and click go on the Single Page (test) link at
http://www2.imagiware.com/RxHTML/

It will tell you where you have html errors (and a lot more)
- like a missing </html> tag right after the </body> tag at the end of your page

How would I check if it's set to optimize?

you wouldn't happen to have the publishing properties set to "optimize" the
code on publish would you?

I had a client going nuts because he'd publish his included page (both
shared borders and FrontPage includes) and the changes wouldn't permeate
into the site as they should've. the culprit was the optimize on publish.
FrontPage couldn't know which pages were based on shared borders or
includes.

Ok, I checked out that page and it didn't help me too much. Maybe because I
didn't understand how to read it and how it showed me to fix my html.
