Not saving settings

Starting a few days ago, one PC does not save display settings - like
wallpaper, theme, sound styles - when shut down and re-booted. Not every
time but randomly, AFAICT.

No hardware/software changes/updates on this one for quite a while.

No other problems at all. Checked clean for malware. Does not affect
functioning or usage but a little disconcerting.

TIA for any insights.

Have you checked hard drive for errors? What about event logs? just a
thought
