not receiving emails

Pleas help I am a bit of a nove so answers in IDIOT form please. I am not
receiving emails in outlook 2000 although when I try to log on as my user
details ( i have windows XP) it tells me I have 12. They seem to have gone
into outlook express 6, so I deleted that version in hope they would transfer
and they haven't, my Wife is having no porblems yet we use the same pc and
she is receiving email in outlook 2000 what is happening.
 
You need to remove your mail account in Outlook Express so that it doesn't
download the messages. What happened was that Outlook Express downloaded
the messages and then deleted them from the server, so there were no
messages for Outlook to retrieve.
