Not getting DNS, just WINS

Have XP Pro machine on large network, tried to join pure
DNS domain and gets 10106 error. It can ping all machines
on network and connect via Pipes but not DNS. IPSEC is
not starting up, figure maybe network card but have
already tried reinstalling IE 6, and repair over top
installation. This macchine gets no WEB sites(DNS) nor
will join domain. It has used DNS servers in IPCONFIG and
even listed the WINS server. No firewall on, no ICS,
uninstalled and reinstalled Anti-virus. Could this be
trojan worm eating a .dll? What can turn off DNS. Hve
tried flushdns and the like too. Thanks,

Is the DNS server that you are configured for the same DNS server that is
hosting your Active Directory namespace. This is required.

Yes, I have tried even joining it to a WinNT 4.0 domain
which it will see because they are not using DNS. It only
has trouble with DNS.

Can you ping the domain's DNS server? Does nsloookup work? If you run
"ipconfig /flushdns" followed by "ipconfig /displaydns" what do you see?

It pings dns servers, it sees them but not in using a
fully qualified name, just netbios name or IP. Just think
of it as a world without DNS. Thanks,
