not enough system resources to display completely

I have a resonably complex spreadsheet but with no macros,
only formulae, if statements and vlookup tables over 3
spreadsheet pages. I keep getting the response, "not
enough systems resources to display completely".
I use XL SL2000 9.0
How do I go about finding what is chewing up the
resources? How do I fix?
