Not enough memory to start windows????? How can i clean if i cant

After a recent microsoft update my computer refuses to restart because of
insufficient disc space. How can i create disc space if I cant start windows
XP? I'm not an expert but I Follow directions very well. HELP!! please.

Boot from a BartPE or Knoppix CD - copy your stuff off (or rely on your
backups - you do periodic backups, correct?)

Perform a REPAIR installation. That should not erase your files, but
reinstall Windows XP...

Repair/install will not erase your Data, read the instruction first then
perform the steps to repair XP.

Safe mode start looks like a frozen screen initially as you state. Give
the system a couple minutes to see if the startup completes. If no joy,
follow the repair process others have suggested.
