Good Evening Everybody. I ran a scan today and i found that I had several
different types of spyware on my machine. But when I try to get rid of these
programs, nothing happens, The "taking action" bar keeps cycling through. I
kept it going for over an hour then eventual gave up becuase I needed to shut
it down so that I could get to bed.

Anyone else have this kind of problem? Thanks in advance.

Hello Maycut,

Report a possible spyware problem to Microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/support/reportspyware.mspx

Can you follow the spyware submission instructions in the help to make sure
WD have your samples if you still have them?
Also, what AV are you running? Usually, flat out malware like this is in
your AV signatures.

After your report to the above, Go for scans in safe mode and also add Ewido
(now known as AVG Anti-Spyware) and Ccleaner as Ewido performs great with
Trojans and Ccleaner will clear your temp folders where alot of malware hides
installers

Ccleaner - http://www.ccleaner.com
Note, uncheck Yahoos toolbar during install.
CCleaner quick tour:
http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp
CCleaner even has a built-in Registry Cleaner. It's not the best (not
CCleaner's main function), but it will find invaild registry entries that
most Registry Cleaners will not. Unlike the Disk Cleaners with a Registry
Cleaner, CCleaner does really fast scanning for Registry Issues. The reason
is CCleaner doesn't want to effect Windows performance or effect any
applications. It's better to be safe than sorry!
The first time you run CCleaner's Issues scanner you'll have to keep
running it back-to-back until it finds nothing. One scenario is a registry
key may only be a reference pointing to a completely different location in
the registry and when it's removed then that reference link is also noticed
as being invalid on a subsequent scan. It's generally a good idea to keep
running the Issues scan until nothing is listed.

After Ccleaner, is time for Ewido

http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download ewido security suite it is a free version of the program.

Install ewido security suite
When installing the program, under "Additonal Options" uncheck..
Install background guard
Install scan via context menu
Launch ewido, there should now be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
The program will now open to the main screen.
When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database
could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files:
On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
Then click on Start Update.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being
installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to
manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed, do the following:

Click on scanner.
Click on Complete System Scan, the scan will now begin.
While the scan is in progress you will be promted to clean files, click OK.
When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the
lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections",
then choose clean and click OK.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located at the bottom of
the screen named Save Report.
Click Save Report.
Now save the report .txt file to your desktop.

Now close ewido security suite.

Again, run Ccleaner.

Restart

The first thing to try would be updating Windows Defender and your antivirus
application, to be sure you are current, then restarting Windows in safe
mode--then scan the whole machine in safe mode with both your antivirus, and
Windows Defender.

If you don't have current antivirus protection you are confident of, you can
start in safe mode with networking, and do a scan at safety.live.com for the
antivirus piece of this puzzle.
