Laptop, XP SP1, no firewall in a corporate network. 40GB disk, 2 partitions,
no fragmention, temp files, cookies all cleaned (40-60% free space)

System is only pingable for a few seconds after final startup (windows boot
screen) and before po-up of login window. Then not pingable any more. I can
ping the exchange server and see others. Mail and internet works fine
allthough sometimes with a 30 sec to 2 min wait time before reacting on the
click/action. This occurs sometimes alos when i close mail or open word...I
have to wait for the system to react. During that time there is disk activity.

Sometime the system works absolutely fine and has no delays.
Any clue what causes the delasy and the unwanted stleth behaviour??

I ment that I have no local firewall but I am within a corporate security
network environement.

Chris,

please use http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm to solve this
problem.

Checked on virus, and spyware with severall programs. Noting found. Checked
the things as mentionned in the doc (link below) all fine .

I can Ping the Mail server, other PC's but I am only pingable when I boot in
secure mode. Looks like there is a service that "hides" me when I boot xp
normally.
I have XP but no SP2 so there's no firewall to be considered.

Chris,

it looks very much like a firewall though. Check for other
security software. Some antivirus programs have a firewall.

Windows XP also has a firewall even before Service Pack 2. Check
that too.

If it's not a firewall, it could be a defective driver, but it
seems unlikely to me.
