Not able to see other computers on lan

I have windows xp home editon on 4 computers. I have a DSL modem connected to
the host computer and the other 3 are wireless through a LinkSys router. I
have Client for MS, File and Sharing, and TCP/IP installed. Can some one help
me with the procedure to set them up so I can see the other computers. The
DSL is using DHCP. Do I need to set up the wireless computer to use there own
static IP addresses (192.168.2.5,4,3) or do I setup up all the computers to
Obtain Automaticlly. I've tried the latter but can never see the others just
get a permissions error. The only way I can see them is if I use NWLink
IPX/SPX/NetBIOS.
But then it runs very slow when I look at shared files.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One good example why extra protocols are not a good idea.

You have the right idea about security on your wireless LAN. With proper setup,
it should work fine using fixed assigned ip addresses.

You should have an enabled firewall on each computer. You need to configure
each firewall to trust only the other individual computers, by ip address. If
you configure each properly, it should allow file sharing with the others.

What SP are you running on your XP Home systems? Do you have any third party
firewalls?

Please describe in more detail how each computer, the router, and the modem are
connected to each other. What make and model are each device?
