Not able to play .wmv file

Have not been able to play .wmv files sent thru emails. Windows media player
starts, the file appears in the play list, but when I attempt to play it, I
get a message that says Windown Media player cannot find the file. Any
suggestions?

Not a answer but the same problem as yours with the .wmv files sent
through the emails, my WMP 11 says that I need a codec and to go through
the d/l plugins web site and go to tools/options/network and set it
there, I checked further and all the files extensions are set to play in
this WMP version, but it refuses to play it anyway, any solution to this
very anoying problem???

Thanks

I was told to save .wmv file to desktop and then click on it and it
would play, it worked very well.

I have the same thing--won't play directly in WMP but when I save it to
a folder(or the desktop), it will play from there.
So, does anyone know what causes this--why you need to save the file
first before it will play?

I have been dealing with this same problem for several weeks now. It doesn't
matter if I save the file to the desktop, folder or disc, it still won't
play. It's only media files attached to emails that are a problem. No one
seems to have an answer. The mystery is why this suddenly occurred after
being able to play these files with no problems in the past.
