Hi i'm looking for a little help i've tried everything and i'm a little
stumped. The computer i'm using now i built myself and i'm running vista
home premium. There are two accounts on the computer one for my cousin and
one for myself, the are both administrator accounts. The problem for me
started a couple days ago when i try to log in i type the my name and
password and it looks like it's trying to log on then after about 20 seconds
the screen goes black. Now i can start the task manager and get into the
control panel by starting that as a new task, then i can get online. when i
checked the problem events it showed a APPCRASH every time i tried to log on
the app was FREESPACE. I will list the particulars
Problem event: APPCRASH
Application name: fs2_open_3_6_9.exe
Application verison: 1.0.0.1
Application timestamp: 4598d08b
Fault Module Name: OpenAL32.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.0.6000.16386
Fault Module Timestam: 4549bdc9
Exception Code: C00135
Exception Offset: 00008fc7

Ok that's all the information i have on the problem and what is funny my
cousin can log onto his account at any time it's just mine that has the
problem. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Hi,

Why is this file:

fs2_open_3_6_9.exe

trying to load when you log on? Have you removed it from your startup axis?
This executable is not part of Vista and should not be loading with the user
logon.

Run msconfig and see if it's on the startup tab, uncheck it if it is. If
not, then it may be in the winlogon entry in the registry under the below
key and needs to be removed:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look in the shell string value, it should only contain "explorer.exe", it
may be appended to the end of it.

Actually Alex yeah me, because i'm back!! I've been working so i haven't had
time to come back, but i'm still having the same problem. At the log in
screen i type my password to log in and the little blue circle starts
rotating and it does it for about 30 seconds then the screen goes black and i
see nothing but the pointer for the mouse. i hit cntrl, alt, delete and pull
up task manager and try to start explorer it won't do it until i hit show
processes for all users then i type in explorer and every thing comes up. i
mean everything sidebar, desktop icons and i can use all the programs. when i
log off and try again i have to follow the same process. i followed Rick's
advise with regedit shell reboot same thing. As i said before my cousin has a
profile and he has no problem whatsoever logging in!! Any help will be
appreciated!
