not able to connect with another xp messenger

I have a home edition xp windows. I fail to establish
voice conversation with another windows messenger on xp.
We fail to connect using netmeeting. We have our
firewalls disabled. My partener has linksys router but I
connect directly. Amazingly, he can receive files but I
can't. Using MSN messenger, I was only able to start
webcam. I could connect to netmeeting with people using
windows Me. Does anyone have an answer to that?

Greetings,

In order to have a voice (and video in Windows Messenger) conversation via Messenger, his
router will need to support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP).

His Linksys router most likely has firmware available that supports UPnP, tell him to visit:
http://www.linksys.com/download
After installing the latest firmware, tell him to go into the router configuration and turn
on UPnP (most likely in the 'Password' tab), then reboot his computer for the changes to take
effect.

As for Netmeeting (if you want to use that), if he puts his local IP into the DMZ of the
router (see router documentation on how to do this), then it will probably work. Note that
with Messenger and its UPnP support, adding into the DMZ is not necessary.

When you receive a file, you're actually connecting to your contact and then downloading the
file. As such, he can receive from you (because you're directly connected), but you can't
receive from him (because the router is blocking it). Also, in order to make use of UPnP
enabled file transfer, he'll need to be using Windows Messenger 5 or MSN Messenger 6. Also
note that MSN Messenger 6 can send files through the actual Messenger server, so that should
still work regardless (albeit slowly).

Thanks for help.
He upgraded the firmware version, enabled the UPnP and
set the DMZ host to his computer's IP address. Net
meeting is still not connecting. With windows messenger
5, he is able to hear and see me. I was able to hear a
couple of words only then noise. He can't still send me
files. Is there a way around that?
