not able to compress the data in veritas Backup

HI All,
I am using veritas Backup. I have purchased 20/40 GB Tape
media also. But I could write only upto 22 GB. I am not
able to use upto 40 GB. I tried with hardware compression ,
software compression. I am using HP surestore DAT 40.
What could be the problem?.

What are you backing up? Note that there are lots of file types that can't
be compressed -

Also, HP should have a utility you can download/use to check the compression
capability - call them and ask where to get it.

Note that you will never ever get 40GB - compression claims are kind of like
"serving suggestions" on frozen-food containers. But you should be able to
get more than 22GB providing you aren't trying to back up a lot of graphics
files, other uncompressible files, etc.
