I got a new computer 2 weeks ago and now have XP Pro. I had Win 2000 Pro
before and it was the most stabile system I had ever had. I loved it. The
technician said I had to have XP. I wish I hadn't listened.
I am not happy with XP. Things move, get deleted. reappear in odd places.
Plain old solitaire disappeared and spider solitaire pops up on the start
menu even after being deleted. I don't want some dumb game on my start menu.
Delete it and it magically reappears. Also the tech told me not to shut down
my computer because it won't restart. Something to do with the dual hard
drives. What????? This tec is a gamer, whatever that means. I can't be
bothered with that waste of time. I am earning my living on my computer and
want it to be stabile and respond . I also would like to be able to shut it
down. The tech has magically disappeared now. Any help here?????????

You bought a lemon. Return it and buy a pc from somewhere else. I can't
believe you would actually buy a pc that has known flaws (i.e. don't
shutdown) and expect it to be stable. This has nothing to do with XP and
everything to do with the quality of the system you bought. Try installing
W2k Pro and see if it runs any better. I think the results will be the same.

Who else is using the system?

Its there becasue SOMEONE is using it. If the look feel is bothering you
turn the start menu over to classic view by r-clicking the start button,
choose properties from the pop up, and then select the calssic start menu
option.

You will no longer be plagued by the recently used programs popping up.

I am with you 100 percent on that. Of course you should be able to turn your
PC off. Is this a name brand system or a hodgepodge custom build? There is
no technical reason to have to leave it on all the time. You may choose to
leave it on, but thats an entirely diffrent conversation.

Who is this game playing tardo? Did you pay him anything to do anything?
Does he actually have a responsibility to help you or are you just assuming
he does? Was he just some nice guy who offered some well meaning but
incorrect advice? Or is this your IT Tech at work, in which case shouldn't
you complain to them?

I might be more inclined to help you out if your post wasn't so full
attitude and if it didn't give the impression that you are demanding to be
helped by a bunch of total strangers who do not benefit one iota in doing
so.

How to have it your way.
Insert your XP pro CD and boot up your system
When the install menu shows say you wish a new install......dont forget to
have your product key handy
format the HD during the Install
here are detailed instructions
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp
Then reload all of your Hardware
drivers...motherboard/video/audio/printer/etc/etc.......get those CD's ready
After you have this running to your satisfaction go to Control
Panel/Administrative tools/computer management/disk management and format
the 2nd HD that you are talking about.
Then Reinstall all of your programs..........have those CD's ready
Be aware that formatting a drive will delete everything on that drive...so
back up your work/personal files before hand and restore after you are
finished reloading all programs.

There now you can set it up the way YOU like it..........and of course if
something is not quite right you can still bitch....but only to yourself!!
