I didn't think MS still included the Program Manager in XP, but it's there,
Progman, from the Run Command. Create your own shortcut Program groups, the
hard way, nostalgia reigns supreme ROFL.
Sadly The File Manager is not there, but there's plenty of WINFILE.EXE's
out there, and it works too, in LFN's as a bonus. Ummm, have I found a
better replacement for Explorer? Security command, Font changing, multiple
disk icons, customisable display, lightning fast!

cheers

One advantage of File Manager over Windows Explorer is that you can show
multiple panes. Handy for dragging and dropping files.

Umm...... You can have Windows Explorer open twice and drag and copy between
them.

I preferred the 2 pane veiw too. 2 windows is awkward, first open 2
instances of explorer. then, resize and position the windows to fit the
screen. Not to mention the screen real estate wasted by the 2 separate
windows interfaces.
Does winfile.exe really work in XP? hmmm I think I have that somewhere....

Yes it does work in XP but you need the version from NT 4.0 not Win9X.
You can get it at MVP's Kelly's web site. Winfile will also allow
you to directly set permissions and take ownership. Don't know why
MS excluded it from Win2000 and XP.
