I'm going to be reformatting my hard-drive and I'm wondering if there is a
way to back up my Norton virus definitions so that I'll have them afterward?

Thanks,

bfrmbama

Go to symantec.com (norton.com) and download them from intelligent updater,
then burn them to cd.

You can get the latest update here. Download it, save it and run it
as soon as you re-install Norton Antivirus again (and before you go
back online).

You will also want to download and save a copy of Windows XP SP1a and
also install it before going online. You can get it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/default.mspx

I've seen how quickly a virus can hit if you go online without both of
these safety measures in place, particularly the SP1a. Viruses get on
your system within minutes, if not seconds.

Thanks for the info!

Jeffrey,

I'm not quite sure how to download the SP1a update without going through
automatic updates. How can I download it to my directory so I can burn the
entire thing on a cd?

Thanks again!

Jeffrey:

when available - I cannot find any mention, dwnld button to bring SP1a to my
machine.

Pls advise.

There have been lots of changes in the Service Pack area right now,
but that link is still good from here. If you click on the Network
Installation link, then over to the blue box, select your language and
click GO. That will start the download. You can save that file to a
CD for future use.

Here's a related article on the SP2:
