I have always used the Norton Utilities to find and fix
problems, but with my new system's higher-end config I am
told not to install and run this prog... ? Why? Am I to
work with the system tools that came with windows, is
that the safest way? Let me know, I am getting ready to
beat the crap out of my system with video editing and
sound scoring and will need to keep it top notch!

That's why you don't want to run a bunch of other utilites at the same time.
Regular Defrag, Cleanup, Zone Alarm, AVG, Regclean, Spybot, Adaware are
enough tools. If you need all the power, shut down ZA, AVG, unnecessary
services (better, create another USER account).

I used it for two years,Then I had some trouble with a bad update from Norton
and uninstalled it ,I'll never go back to it,You really do not need any
funtion of N/S/W with XP and my system speed increased once it was
uninstalled.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Unfortunately you don't realize how much better your computer can be WITHOUT
norton.
