hi all,

I downloaded a file Norton_removal_tool.exe from Symantec, and when I try to
run it, it gives me an error saying it is not a signed file and will not
run.

Is there a way to "get it signed" ? or simply make it run anyway?

thanks,
niteowl

Just run it. Look closer at the options. It just means it hasn't been
tested by MS; no big deal; that's a safe prog to run as long as you got
it from the actual web site.

Tired of MS Office and their shananigans?
Try this free replacement:
http://www.openoffice.org

Under the Advanced tab of IE properties check setting under Security
heading.

it gave me no options.. just an error message saying it was not signed and
would not run, click OK and it just disappears...

I was trying to run this on a computer that had lots of stuff wrong
(adware/spyware - since removed).... I was just trying to clean it up.. when
I tried to run this same file on another computer, I got a symantec window
that listed all the versions it would remove, etc. so it must have been
something with that computer that didn't allow it to run. ?? don't know.

I ended up manually removing all references to "symantec" and "norton", in
the registry and the file system... so hopefully I got it all. I also ran
a registry pruner from karenware.com.
I have returned it to my friend but still looking for solutions to help him.

When I ran Belarc advisor, it still showed Norton AV 2002 as a secondary
program, but his primary AV is AVG.
so not sure where Belarc is still reading that there is Norton on this
system.

His system is XP Home btw... 512M RAM (he's getting more) :)

thanks for the response..
