Hi Gang,

I've got a problem with Norton Firewall 2002.

I just downloaded the latest updates from Symantic,
and now I can't access any webpages.

Internet Explorer 6 tells me:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Network error
Unable to request URL from host www.google.com:80: Connection refused
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

If I disable my firewall, everything works OK.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I had the exact same problem, I contacted Symantec and
they where no help, by the way you are in the wrong forum
this is MS (LOL), but it just so happens that I may be of
assistance. Run the the application scan under internet
access control, click on configure then app scan, let it
run it's course, when it finishes choose all of the IE
apps to allow access. this will some your problem

Post a reply if it works or not..

Good luck

No - it didn't work. :-(

I disabled the firewall, and I've noticed something strange ...

On the current status window, the firewall is both enabled and disabled:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Current Status

Norton Firewall is protecting your
system. Disable

V Personal Firewall

Personal Firewall is currently Disabled _Enable_

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Weird.

The status window is correct, it says enable to disable
click on disable (BLUE) or vise versa. run the app scan
again or check which apps you already gave permission,
sounds like you stoped one of the services that it needs
to access the internet. I use DSL and a file called
CFD.EXE has to be able to access the net, check your apps.
Are you sure that you selected all Internet Explorer the
icons might look different.

Good luck

Also you can try by manually adding IE to the access
control list.

One more comment and I am done for today..

I formatted my PC 3 times because I got no help from
Symantec, come to find out this was the issue.
You can delete all of the apps that you gave permission
too then try to access the net again it should come back
up and ask if you will allow it to go out.

good luck I will look on this site tomorrow to see your
progress.........

IT WORKED!!!

I deleted everything in the list,
then enabled automatic Internet access control,
and allowed Norton Firewall to do whatever it wanted to.

I dunno - maybe some of those access rules screwed things up somehow.

THANKS MAN! - you're my hero.
