Norton AV with Avast?

Can I use these two together with Norton's scan email off. With it on,
I don't get emails in OLE. Norton says I'm still protected from
viruses, it is just that they are stopped when I try to open them. I'd
rather have them stopped at the server level. Win98, Thunderbird, OLE
2000, Norton 2000, ZoneAlarm, Script Sentry. Thanks,
