Norton AV Scan Summary Problem

M

Michael Abraham

My Norton AV interrupts the downloading of email messages with a "Scan
Summary" when it finds a virus. The download won't proceed without clicking
OK. This means babysitting the whole 60 + Spam messages to prevent it from
trying all the messages again later. I'm getting the "Network Security
Update" Virus 10x a day. Can't it just download email and delete the viruses
without any extra attention on my part?

You will still be downloading all those files. Get a copy of mailwasher (or
similar), it's free. This will avoid downloading anything to your computer
except the header info. You can accept, delete or bounce a message based on
your appraisal of the probable content.

Bounce to whom? The From: addresses are NOT responsible for the virus.
The virus fakes the email address. You are contributing to the spread of
the virus if you are bouncing it. People receiving the bounce could report
you for sending viruses and have your Internet account canceled!

Mailwasher Bounce is a VERY bad idea but other than that it is a very good
application.

In NAV 2002:

Options -> Internet/Email -> "Repair then silently quarantine if
unsuccessful" or "Repair the silently delete if unsuccessful".

yes but you have to set up the control centre for Norton to repair
automatically-go to security setting-open virus scanner settings and set up
as you would like
