My wife has win98se and myself winXP home. She currently has Norton
antivirus2000 CD with a 2003 upgrade floppy. However, when I try to install
NA2000, I have two options - install if you have win98, or the second option,
install if you have NT or Win2000. Which would you all suggest i install
first in order to be able to use the upgrade? Thanks for your help.

Does the 2003 floppy version say it will upgrade over a 2000 ?
May I suggest you get a full version of Norton Anti-virus 2003 off eBay for
just a few dollars.

Hi Todd,
the norton 2003 floppy allegedly will update norton 2000 to 03. It did so
successfully on my wife's win98se. However, the question remains, since I
have winxp - the only choices on the installation of norton2000 by itself is
for 98 or nt/20oo only since it is so old. Which should I select to install
since i have winxp? After install, I will use the floppy to upgrade to
norton03. Therefore, which is a closer O/S to Winxp, 98se (first option) or
n/t and win200 (second option). It's making me choose between the O/S's
before installing. Thanks for helping me.

From what I've been lead to believe, Windows XP is built off the Win NT, Win
2000 core.
So I would assume you would have better luck with the Norton for NT, 2000.
I would also say it would be a big mistake to load Norton anti-virus 2000 on
Win XP.
Win XP came out a few years after Norton 2000.
You can get McAfee anti-virus 2004 for $7.99 or Panda Titanium Antivirus
2004 for $9.99

I've been using the Panda 2004 for the past month.

Since NAV 2k was out before WinXP in may/may not install. If it does
install, you run the chance of ruining your XP installation, as even NAV
2001 is sketchy (required a patch to run properly with XP) where NAV 2002
was the first version fully supporting XP. I would follow Tod's advice and
get a cheap copy of NAV 2002 or NAV 2003 somewhere, but if you wish to take
the risk and possibly ruin your installation, then again take the NT
choice - it will may fail as if I remember it was looking for NT 4.0/2k with
SP6 or higher installed. Just beware, the upgrade diskette again, may/may
not work - to me there are just too many unknowns there that could mess your
system up - why risk it?

Small Note: If you want to learn how to fix/do something, I'll point you to
it, but if you want me to do your work for you, it will cost you $50 USD per
hour - your choice.

I would not use Norton at all. The free AVG does at least as good, or better
job and does not take over the system like Norton.
