Norton Antivirus Mistake

Hi, I have a brand new computer. So my Norton is popping up quiet a bit. It
ask wether to allow or block certain things. I hit Always Block when it
showed an Alert. Now I cannot acces the internet with my Norton AntiVirus on.
It says cannot find server. Did I block my own server? If I disable Norton I
can connect just fine. And if so....How do I unblock it? Thanks

Title says it all.

If you haven't yet subscribed to Norton I'd uninstall it, and download AVG
Free. Or any number of other good alternatives. But avoid McAfee, it's
nearly as bad. For a firewall the Windows one is adequate (remember to check
it's ON after the uninstall) or you could use ZoneAlarm or Kerio.

This is a perfect example of why I suggest that most users stick with the
built in Windows Firewall and also use an internet router for cable/DSL
connections. It sounds like you have done a denial of service on yourself.
Most likely you disabled outbound to port 53 UDP used by DNS so that your
computer can resolve internet names and may have been requested by
svchost.exe. The documentation for Norton should show you how to check for
what applications you have restricted and then enable them again if need be.
Unless you have a need to restrict other users on the computer to what
applications can be used for internet access seriously consider using the
built in Windows Firewall instead and disabling the Norton firewall
component which may be called worm protection or such.

Don't just disable it remove it completely and use a free AV product there
are several around that don't get you into this kind of trouble.

I am no longer a fan of Norton products because of problems like this
showing up.

Good luck and regards,
