Just wondering if anyone has experienced problems with Norton installed on
their computer. I believe it has deleated important files used to run certain
programs on the computer. I have used Windows Movie Maker and am trying to
burn a video I made onto disc and it won't work for some reason. Anyone got
some suggestions? Also everytime I open My Pictures (folder from dl pics from
Digital camera) it creates a error message "Windows Explorer has encountered
a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" Does
anyone know how to fix this too? Thanks!

Whether Norton has caused these problems I don't know but Norton software
can cause a lot of computer problems and is best avoided. If you can go back
to the last restore point before Norton was installed you may be able to fix
things that way. Better still, restore the last good backup.Unfortunately,
doing an uninstall via add and remove programs does not remove everything
from your computer that Norton installed and changed. There may be
instructions on the Symantec website on how to remove it completely, failing
that Google for remove Norton antivirus. Good luck, you will need it!

Only just about everyone who has made that mistake -- myself included!
I took Norton firewall and Norton AV off of all the boxes I manage --
which is eight. Norton fights like hell to keep its tentacles in
your system but I prevailed. Now I use AVG anti-virus and firewall
and its positively boring the lack of crashes and conflicts the
systems have now as opposed to when they were Norton-contaminated.
Speeds seem a little better as well.

There are a couple of utilities on Symantec's website that help. I
did brute force deletion of all Symantec registry entries and files.
You can have a problem with no internet access due to services having
been modified to become dependent on Symantec components. If you do a
registry search for "depends on" you can find and fix these and
restore access. I have yet to hear of ANYONE who has ditched Norton
for AVG or similar who was not immensely relieved by the result.
