Norton Antivirus 2005 blocks FTP - solution?

When worm protection is enabled in norton antivirus 2005, my FTP
software (Ipswitch's WS_FTP Pro) is unable to connect. The only
workaround I have found is to disable worm protection when I need to do
FTP. I have found nothing about this on either the Symantec or Ipswitch
site.

Does someone have a magic solution less drastic than disabling worm
protection?

Try forcing the FTP client to explicitly use PASV mode, even if you
aren't behind NAT.

Sigh... did Symantec pull out a meat cleaver or something when they
came up with their worm-blocking rules? I can halfway understand them
overlooking one specific IPSec client (Nortel Contivity) in their
testing, but jeez... FTP too?

My biggest gripe with NAV2k5 is that their firewall rules seem to be
only a hair less trigger-happy than ZoneAlarm's... but unlike
ZoneAlarm, NAV2k5's philosophy seems to be to just silently block
everything rather than risk allowing a naive user to be
socially-engineered into unblocking a worm by making it easy to do.
Grrrrr.
