Norton 2004 Installation

I installed my new Symantec/Norton 2004 Security for my
Windows XP Professional Edition. Things pretty much worked
but could not get my IM's to work/sign in on MSN or Yahoo.
Then got a message from Norton saying they were having big
problems and to uninstall immediately which I did. Yahoo
also suggested this. Now what? Can anyone help me? Now
things are working just like before and don't want to re-
install it without some help, maybe I'm missing something!

message from norton.. as in an email, a popup, or a virus,
pretending to be norton?
scan for virus with reinstalled norton and spyware with
spybot from safer-networking.org
