Normal View gives much too tiny fonts and zoom does not work

Word 2003 on Windows XP. Two userids on the system. On one of them, Normal
View displays really really small (two or three pixels per character) and
the View->Zoom menu options are not effective. I try setting 100%, 200%,
specific zoom, page width nothing changes, and when the View->Zoom menu is
reopened, the item I just finished selecting is once again blank. The zoom
functions do work in Print Layout, for example, but not in Normal View.

On the other userid, the zoom functions work fine in Normal View. I have
compared the NORMAL.DOT for the two userids, and they are identical. I have
scrolled through the option and customization settings, and they seem
identical.

How do I get Normal View to accept zoom?

Thanks.

While the Normal.dots may appear identical, they may not be. I would try
renaming the one that gives the problem to oldnormal.dot and the restart
Word and see if the behaviour has changed.

The normal.doc files were identica per windiff.

Eventually, after six hours, I gave up, and found a document on the web
somewhere about resetting the Word 2003 registry and templates using the
SUPPORT.DOT template supplied with Word. This fixed the problem, at the
cost of having to reconstruct customization.
