Normal style changes when text is imported

In Word 2003, when I open a new file and cut and paste text from another
document, the Normal style in the new file changes to reflect the normal
style of the imported text ... which is irritating, because I am doing this
to impose my Normal style on the imported text.

Any help resolving this would be most appreciated!

Instead of just dumping it in as copied try using Edit> Paste Special>
Unformatted Text.
