Normal.dot / Macros / Autocorrect etc.

My macros are suddenly gone. I put a few of them on my
main menu and they no longer appear. I look to edit them
and they do not show up as even existing. Most of my
custom autocorrect entries are gone. I did a search and
the search did not even find my normal.dot file, but i
found it myself. I used windows xp restore but it didn't
help. This happens at least once a year and it is
extremely time consuming to re-enter my macros and
autocorrects as i literally have hundreds of them. I
post every time it happens but no-one has had an answer
and I'm hoping now someone will. I want to know 1. if
there is a way i can recover my lost stuff (macros,
autocorrects), 2. what all files store macros and
autocorrect entries so I can back them up, 3. learn a
short way to create a macro by taking an existing text
paragraph and have that macro as a menu item.
Thanks
