Non responsive menus

I am using an athlon 1800 with xp pro and when i try and
run apps from the start menu the egg timer appears and
then nothing happens. Then my pc moves like slug.

Can you help?
 
I think the people you bought the computer from can help you better than the
newsgroups.

As they scream yee ha and disappear into the sunset with
my worthless warranty I think they are gone forever!!
