non-rectangular name - definition?

Does anyone know what a "non-rectangular name" is? Below
is text from the MS Excel help regarding a status message
for links. I can't find anything that explains what "non-
rectangular name" means.

"Warning: Undefined or non-rectangular name Some names
cannot be resolved until the source workbook is opened.
Click Open Source, switch back to the destination
workbook, and click Check Status. If this does not resolve
the problem, make sure the name is not misspelled or
missing. Switch to the source workbook, and then on the
Insert menu, point to Name, and then click
Define, and look for the name."

Just guesses:
- a name that refers to more than one rectangular area
- a name that refers to a formula or constant

Hi,

Your workbook contains a defined name that either has a
problem or refers to another workbook (link).

- check in the Edit menu if the Links option is not greyed
out. If so, the name will have a reference to another
workbook. If not, something else might be amiss.

Consider downloading the Name manager (by Charles
Williams, Matthew Henson and myself) from:

www.bmsltd.co.uk/mvp

or from:

www.decisionmodels.com/downloads.htm

It has some options that will help you locate the problem,
like showing names with errors and names with external
references. It can also locate names that refer to multi-
area ranges (non-rectangular).
