Non-contacts subfolder in Contacts

There was a massive implosion of a 2003 .pst file requiring the use of the
scan tool to repair the file. After the fix all of the contacts were stuck
inside of a mail folder, so the folder was dragged to the contents folder
(the wrong course of action, apparently) so see if they would automatically
convert themselves back into visible, usable contact entries. (They
didn't).

How do I get this subfolder out of contacts (I know it is there - when I
check the folder size it appears with 100k or so of data) since it doesn't
show up on the folder navigation pane. Once I get the subfolder out from
under contacts, how do I get all of the data back where it belongs?

Thanks

Maybe a dumb questions, but if the folder doesn't appear on the Folder List navigation pane, how do you know it's there at all?

When I check the size of the contacts folder (right click contacts on
the big button below the folder list navigation pane) and check the
folder size it appears.

So, in the Folder List navigation pane, do you see any subfolders for the default Contacts folder?

Is this in a .pst file or an Exchange mailbox?

If you're seeing only mail folders, it sounds like you're looking at the Mail navigation pane, not the Folder List navigation pane.

This was the clue I needed - it inspired me to go digging through the
options to figure out how to get to the folder list navigation pane (not
where I expected to find it).
