Non-Admin connot print dos - Devcon Not working for me?

I have some standard users that I don't want to give admin privileges to but
I cannot get devcon to work for me on their machines. They are using an old
dos app that use net use lpt1 \\... and it prints fine if I login but when
the standard user logs in it prints to wrong printer, it won't print to the
right printer. It prints to another network printer. I assume somehow this
is a permission issue since I can print fine from the same pc. I downloaded
devcon as suggested which cracked me up cause in order to run it you have to
pretty much be an admin. I enabled load/unload and gave them rights to
system32\drivers but when they print is still goes to the wrong printer.
I'm able to run "devcon disable *PNP0401" when they are logged in and says
the device is disabled but still doesn't work. Do you think this is a
win2000 permission issue or somehow something with the dos app, it doesn't
know who's logged in so I'm assuming that somehow this is a permission issue
since I print fine when I login into that machine.

Thanks

This should not apply to Win2K, but only to XP

You may also want to have a look at Printfil to allow your DOS app. printing
to the Windows printers without having to NET USE an LPT port.

That explains why it doesn't work for me, I guess I should have read a
little further down. My problem is that the dos app requires the net use
mapping, has about 10 printers mapped. Is there a registry hack,
permission, or policy I can modify that would allow non-admins the right to
map these?

By using Printfil it will no more needs to NET USE LPT1

you could try to disable the LPT1 port in the bios. If it's not physically
present in the hardware, a normal user should be able to NET USE it.
