noise problem

I have just built a PC with an ASUS P5WD2 and Intel Pentium 4 660 3.6Ghz
Socket 775.
Fairly happy apart from one thing : Noise!
The CPU fan is VERY noisy and I *must* do something about it as soon as
possible. Can someone suggest a good quiet fan?

I don't intend to overclock dramatically as reliability is far more
important.
I also thought it was a bit trickly to fasten the fan properly so overall
very unimpressed by this fan.

Also the chassis has 2 connectors so I can check the speed of chassis fans.
Anything I should look out for when replacing the current ones that don't
have speed connectors?

A few years ago when Athlons first appeared on the market everyone got
excited because they were a cheaper answer to Intel P4 s. The Athlon was
terrific except that they needed 5000 rpm cpu fans to keep them cool and the
noise was, well exceptionally annoying. Zalman came out with a rainbow fin
\type heatsink and overhanging 80 mm fan that kept the cpu cool and was
impressively quiet. It saved my ears and it worked. Today they have a
variety of heatsink coolers that would work with a P4. I'd suggest checking
them out.

Those CPU's run VERY HOT! Poor design. As a result the Intel fan has to
run at full rpm. I would recommend looking into getting a heavy duty Zalman
heatsink/fan that fits the socket 775. They run much quieter than Intel's
and will bring the temperature of your CPU down.

You may wish to take into consideration the Thermalright XP-120 (with
the retention module LGA775 RM) - www.thermalright.com

Had the same problem. Purchased a Gigabyte G-Power Pro Cooler. Huge
difference! Nice and cool and very quiet.

Bollocks.
