Node Type unknow Problem

Chuck,
Thanks for providing the instructions below.
"To resolve this issue, use Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) to locate
the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\ParametersChange
the value of the EnableProxy value in the preceding registry key to 0
or 1, quit Registry Editor, and then restart your computer."
However I am not sure about the implementation.
I change the EnableProxy value from 1 to 0. Restart PC but still get
Node Type unknow in ipconfig. I change it back to 0 and restart
machine but result still the same.
An I making the right change? I am confused with "in the
preceding registry key to 0 or 1" What dose this mean?

TIA

Helob,

Not a lot is known about the effectiveness of this procedure. From reading the
article:
<http://support.microsoft.com/?id=310570>
I gather that correcting the value EnableProxy should cause the value NodeType
to be recalculated. The correct values for this setting are 0 and 1. The
setting, from reading farther down the article, appears to affect the WINS
Proxy. In most cases, you will not be using a WINS Proxy, so the correct value
is 0.

Unfortunately, you do not seem to be the only one to find that making this
change produces no results. This change is cosmetic only, anyway. A Node Type
of Unknown is treated as Broadcast on a LAN where no WINS server is defined.
