NOD32 slowing my PC down?

M

-mike-

I installed NOD32 (v205) on my PC, and ever since doing so my machine seems
to grind to a halt for a few seconds when accessing various programs or
trying to do certain tasks. Opening up a dialog box that may show me a list
of files for instance; sometimes there is a delay of around 5-6 seconds
before the files start to get displayed.

There are a lot of settings I'm not sure I understand fully on this program
so I wonder if anyone can give me some tips on what might be causing the
problem and how to fix it?

I know it is NOD32 that is causing it because if I uninstall it everything
works fin.

I also installed NOD32 sometime back and have experinced some delays as
well, I finally figured out that NOD32 will update whenever there is
something to update. This is both good and bad in the fact that I no
longer have to worry about going to a site and downloading on a regular
basis. It is a pain at times but worth it (hopefully).

You can turn off auto update and check daily for a manual update.

I may have mislead you in the fact that "bottom line" I have no problem
with NOD32 updating whenever.I switched from Norton to obtain a better
security and so far, have not regreted my decision.

1. You think NAV is better than NOD32?

2. NIS is renowned for slowing machines down, NOD32 isn't.

I think you have something else on your machine that is/was the problem,
other than NOD32.

YMMV

The problem is not the use of different cite-marks, but rather the way
OE breaks quoted lines. This gets worse as the levels get deeper.
Easily fixed, even without special add-ons for OE.

thanks Ant. Hopefully **Chas, David H. Lipman (often poster) and some

I think you meant to reply to the original poster. I don't have any
problems with NOD32, other than their surprise updates. Perhaps you
didn't read my post clearly.

| I'll check the link shortly. As for my setup:
|
| WinXP Pro
| 1.5 gig RAM
| P4 1.6ghz

With that much HP under the hood, you should never notice NOD32 unless
there is some spyware/malware bogging the system down.

I don't keep my systems running continuously. I frequently need to do a
quick search on the Net and don't have time to wait for software to
phone home for updates that's why I do manual updates.
