No Windows Update

I just removed a Welchia virus from my computer and cannot
get to Windows updqte. I get a Thanks for your interest in
Windows Update.... this only applies to computers using
the windows operating system.
In other words windows update thinks my computer isn't
operating under the W2k OS. I have the 2003 Norton
Firewall and 2002 Norton System works. Could these be part
of my problem?
 
Yep- turned off the firewall and everything is AOK. Got a
hardware firewall and antivirus so things should be OK
without software firewall being on all of the time.
