I keep getting error messages that say I have an invalid product key. One
suggested that the key is on a label on the back of the computer. I now
have the key from the label, but can't find where to put it. Both on the
Microsoft site and on my computer, I can't find where I can enter the proper
code. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

I found my way to the product key updater tool, but it says my key is still
invalid. I'm not happy.

BTW - it is 'activation' - not 'registration'. The former is required, the
latter is not and does little for the end-consumer in this case.

So what you are saying is that you have been informed you have an invalid
product key currently installed on your Windows XP (what? Media Center,
Home, Professional, x64?) PC...

Did you confirm the key currently entered does not match the sticker on your
computer?

Download and utilize Belarc Advisor to get and printout a copy of your
entire system - as a snapshot. It will tell you your Windows XP product
key and many more useful things (like what hardware you have, etc.)

Another way - to just get the product keys - is to get and utilize Magic
Jellybean Keyfinder.

Once you have confirmed they are indeed *not the same* - you have found this
tool?

The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for
users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key
to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key - all without a reinstall!

And it still tells you that you are invalid...?

Yes. The product key tool had me check that.

Without a reinstall is exactly what I wanted.

Yep. I think I'm out of luck. I'll have to buy a genuine key. I was
ripped off by the computer store. They gave me fake stuff.
