no view available in my pictures

Hi,
I don't know what happened to my documents and pictures, but when I click on
them there is a red box with an x saying no view available, they worked fine
a week ago and have tried everything anti virus runs and spyware runs and
nothing is showing up.
would appreciate any help I can get here. Please

Did you install any unauthorized patch to protect against the .wmf exploit
last week? If so, uninstall it and get the right one from Windows Update.

Another thought, did you by any change unregister the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?

To re-register Windows Picture and Fax Viewer: To do this, type the following at a command prompt:
regsvr32 shimgvw.dll
